The organisation says it posts these donations for transparency over its current voluntary funding arrangements with those that derive an income from gambling in Britain every quarter.

Between these quarters – 1 April 2022 and 31 December 2022 – the charity received a total of £13.2m ($16.4m) in voluntary and additional donations.

The charity adds it has not received any funds through regulatory settlements in the financial year to date.

Income from two of the largest operators that donated to GambleAware accounted for 90% of the total funds received. The two top donors were bet365 and Entain, which donated £4.9m and £7m respectively.

Income from all other UK-licensed operators accounted for 10%, with a string of small operators donating the minimum £250.

GambleAware notes that donations from the UK’s four largest operators have been rising in value since 2020.

This is thanks to a commitment brokered by the Betting & Gaming Council for big operators to increase the percentage of research, prevention and treatment funding to 1% of their gross gaming yield before the 2023-2024 financial year.

Operators have until 31 March 2023 to donate to GambleAware for it to be included in the charity’s current financial year.

Under current laws, slots operators are asked to donate a minimum of 0.1% of annual GGY to GambleAware each year – with operators of GGY less than £250,000 required to offer £250 to the charity.

GambleAware adds that the funds received throughout the financial year will be used to help the National Gambling Treatment Service.
